Previously on the Amazing Race, 11 teams of 2 set out from Los Angeles Coliseum, United States and travelled 7600km to Salvador, Brazil. Along the way, alliance are formed to help teams strategically (siaun: ok, so we get a cab big enough for the 4 of us? we can save money like that). At one of the tasks, baowen was easily startled by the items dropping off the vending cart (baowen: AHH! AHHH!!!) At the detour, felicia and seelek made a disasterous mistake which threw them to the back of the pack (felicia: oh my goodness. seelek: NO!!! I DON'T WANT TO DO IT AGAIN!!!). however, their misfortune is shortlived when married couple timothy and valerie was slowed down badly due to timothy's age. In the end, they were the last to arrive at the pitstop and were eliminated. 10 teams remain, who will be eliminated next?
zhanwei and joel, who were the first to arrive at 4.07pm, will depart at 4.07am.
zhanwei: *rips open clue* Fly 1030km to the city of Fortaleza, Brazil. Then, travel by taxi to the tiny village of Cumbuco and find the plaza known as Plaza do Cumbuco.

zhanwei: coming in first last leg has a good feeling. it sort of sets the benchmark for the other teams that we are a force to be reckoned with.

wahngee: the previous leg made me realise that jack has grown up alot and have been making a few good decisions by himself. maybe i should slack abit and let him run the show.
priscilla: are we flying to united states to see phelps???

zhanwei: let's ask around for the first flight.

priscilla: but it's not beyond your control to request for them to change to a larger plane. am i right? you tell me. don't give me all that nonsense about what no space and everything. i tell you what, the customer is always right.

manager: excuse me ma'am, we have changed to a larger plane. it can now accomodate all of you.

zhenyang: heehee. *rips open clue* Detour. Beach It or Dock It.
A Detour is a choice between 2 tasks, each with its pros and cons. In this detour, teams have to choose between 2 seaside jobs, Beach It or Dock It.
In Beach It, teams have to travel by dune buggy to a nearby beach whereby they have to choose a two-man crew and a traditional Brazilian boat. Using local methods, teams need to maneuver heavy rolling logs to drag the 440-pound vessel 100 yards across the sand and into an inlet.
In Dock It, teams have to travel by dune buggy to a nearby port and search for a container hidden in a shipyard. At the port, they needed to use a computer to scour a database until they find the same unique serial number listed in their clue. After finding the number, teams have to use the corresponding four-letter code to locate the section of the shipyard in which their container was located. Once they located their container in the section, they would find their clue inside.

A roadblock is a task that only one person may perform. In this roadblock, that team member have to locate the name of their next destination, Cicade Da Crianca, somewhere along a 600-foot wall. To accomplish this quickly, racers have to embrace the laidback local culture and resist the urge to overthink the numerous Portuguese ads surrounding it.
baowen: i think i will do it. your temper is so short that you might burn the wall down.
siaun: good point. all the best sweetie.

jack: it is working! we are pulling ahead of the rest!

rachel: can we blame the taxi?
yixuan: i am sorry to tell you that you have been eliminated from the race.
wanjing: it figures. can't have a non-elimination leg so early anyway.
rachel: it has been a nice run though.
yixuan: from survivor to amazing race. how much do you think you have learnt from all this?
rachel: well, both game requires teamwork and coordination. be it between individuals or between teams.
wanjing: yeah and interpersonal skills is important.
rachel: it's sad that we can't go further in the game because i'm sure we will learn more.
