11 teams of 2, each with a preexisting relationship, is at Los Angeles Coliseum ready to start racing to win the amazing race. They are:
rachel and wanjing, both finalists of the previous season of Survivor.
rachel: wanjing and i forged a very strong bond during the game and we managed to last all the way to the end.
wanjing: but we understand that this is a whole new game whereby we have to work together with other teams as well.
timothy and valerie, married couple who lost by a few seconds in the previous season.
valerie: it was very frustrating to lose by that few seconds just because of the retard roadblock.
timothy: yes, this time we haven taken brand's chicken essence to boost our memory power so we wont lose at another memory challenge.
siying and zhiyan, currently dating girls who are determined to win.
siying: i had a crush on zhiyan since long ago and it took alot of determination to expose it.
zhiyan: yup, so i am sure we will last till the very end.
zhenyang and limin, competitive siblings who love to win.
limin: my brother and i have grown up together and i hope it can give us an advantage against others.
zhenyang: and we are both smart people. i just hope that our competitive spirit dont come in between us.
zhanwei and joel, internet friends who have a common interest - maple.
zhanwei: the race is like a game. just follow the instructions and we will win.
joel: and i am sure being an all-male team, we can win the rest in many challenges.
pohchoon and priscilla, engaged couple who are choosing their marriage dates.
priscilla: WE MUST WIN *looks towards the host* YOU BETTER LET US WIN IF NOT I WILL ASK PHELPS TO KILL YOU!
pohchoon: HEY! WE ARE GETTING MARRIED AND ALL YOU CAN THINK OF IS YOUR PHELPS?
*starts arguing*
yanzhi and hanwei, buddies since secondary school.
hanwei: we have been good friends for a long time already. so i can say that we roughly know what each other is thinking.
yanzhi: yes, and we can comminucate well with each other, unlike that previous team who kept screaming in the interview room.
yuyan and lisa, cousins who can get very high over the slightest thing.
lisa: booboo!
yuyan: booboo booboo!
*starts laughing like mad*
siaun and baowen, newly dating couple who is trying out their relationship.
siaun: we will win this right, sugar?
baowen: of course, honey.
felicia and seelek, friends who don't have any other friends.
felicia: we are here to win and not to make friends.
seelek: yeah man! so bring it on!
jack and wahngee, father and son who travelled alot.
jack: i hope that my dad's vast travelling experience will help us to win this race and of course we would like to build a stronger relationship by going through this race.
wahngee: what a waste of time.
jack: and to change his mindset.
Yixuan: In just a few moments, you will be embarking on a race around the world. There are 11 legs. At the end of each leg, there is a pitstop. 8 of these pitstops are elimination points. Come in last, and you will be eliminated. The other 2 are non-elimination points, however, you do not want to come in last as there will be a disadvantaged incurred onto you. The first team to cross the finish line at the end of 11 legs, will win the amazing race. Your first clue is waiting for you on your backpack at the top of these stairs. Good luck, travel safe, GO!
Reaching the bags in first place, joel ripped open the clue.
joel: Fly to Salvador, Brazil via one of these 2 flights, American Flight 252 or United Flight 843. Then, make your way to an old sandwich shop known as O Rei Do Pernil.
zhanwei: let's do it!
lisa: booboo, we are flying to BRAZIL!!!
yuyan: booboo, YAY, booboo! *starts screaming*
priscilla: they should have put in a task whereby we receive a clue from phelps.
pohchoon: phelps is busy drowning himself...
priscilla: *glares at pohchoon* say that again and i will drown you next to him.

jack: Choose a local vending cart, wheel it through the narrow streets of Salvador to a popular plaza known as Praca Da Se, and deliver the cart to Indio in exchange for their next clue.
wahngee: i assume we can't let any thing drop off.
jack: we have to deliver the whole cart. let me use the jacket i always tie around my waist to secure the items.
wahngee: wah! when u become so clever?
baowen: *items drop on floor* AHH!
siaun: don't scream.
baowen: ok.. i was just shocked just... *another item drops* AHHHHH!
siaun: STOP SCREAMING LA!
baowen: don't need to scream at me laaaa.
pohchoon: ok. i think you take some of the smaller items on top and then i push the cart quickly.
priscilla: not a bad idea. how i wish phelps was here to help us.

jack: Travel by taxi to a Brazilian military base to spend a night outdoors under mosquito nets. Once there, sign in for one of three departure times the following morning.
wahngee: quick let's get out of here before the boys see us.

siaun: let's sit down here and wait.

rachel: all the teams with this departure slots are all female and i think we are more athletic than them. i hope we can maintain a small lead over them.

zhanwei: Detour. Hard Way Up or Soft Way Down
In this detour, teams must choose between 2 tasks, each with its pros and cons. The choice, Hard Way Up or Soft Way Down
In Hard Way Up, teams must make their way to the staircase of a nearby cathedral called Escadaria do Passo where, knowing they will be asked a mystery question, they have to climb the stone staircase on their hands and knees as locals do for a spiritual pledge. At the top, they will be asked a mystery question to earn the next clue. If they're wrong, they have to climb the stairs again.
In Soft Way Down, teams must make their way to an outdoor elevador known as Elevado Lacerda and climb down a cargo net to the street 240 feet below.
joel: i think we should do the cargo net.
zhanwei: me thinks so too.

joel: Make your way to the pitstop, Forte Sao Marcelo. This floating battlement, that once defended the city from pirates, is the first pitstop in the race around the world. The last team to check in will be eliminated.
zhanwei: let's go! we are going to get first! TAXI!!
joel: wait! i have a feeling it's around here. let's ask around.
passer-by: it's just over there. walking there is much quicker than travelling by cab.
joel: thanks!
